Katsama — A Drawing Companion
Once upon a time, you made drawings simply because it felt good to do so.
A line steadied your mind.
A dot slowed your breath.
Then life became busy — faster, louder, more demanding — and drawing quietly slipped away.
Katsama is here to help bring it back.
I am Katsama: an artist devoted to patterns, dots, and repetition. I come from Japan, where care is found in small actions, and where doing one thing attentively can become a form of calm.
I am part of The Artist Companions, created by Rob Pepper — a family that believes drawing is not about talent, but about returning to yourself.
What this sketchbook is for
This sketchbook is not about expressing big ideas all at once.
It is about making small parts and allowing them to build.
One dot.
Then another.
Repetition becomes rhythm.
As your hand moves, your thoughts settle.
As patterns grow, worries loosen their grip.
You are not escaping life — you are easing yourself back into it.
How Katsama works
Over time, Katsama invites you to draw as a way to feel better.
To slow down.
To give your attention to something gentle and deliberate.
Some days the drawings will feel simple.
Some days they may surprise you.
All of them are an opportunity to arrive more fully in the present.
There is no urgency.
There is no correct way to begin.
Bring a pen.
Or a pencil.
Work in small moments.
Trust that the whole will come.
A quiet beginning
Art does not need urgency.
It needs care.
And sometimes, it needs a single dot to begin.
